Food Security: Abia Women Rally Behind Lawmaker Erondu Jnr Over Fertilizer Support

Women across Abia South Senatorial District have commended the APC Senatorial Candidate for Abia South, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, for distributing over 2000 bags of fertilisers and over 200 wrappers to women and farmers across the zone to boost agricultural productivity and support vulnerable households during the current farming season.

The distribution exercise, which covered Ukwa East, Ukwa West, Ugwunagbo, Aba North, Aba South and Obingwa Local Government Areas, attracted widespread commendation from women leaders, political stakeholders and community leaders.

They described the intervention as timely and impactful in the face of rising agricultural input costs.

Speaking during the exercise, the APC Zonal Woman Leader for Abia South, Mrs. Lovina Okpara, said the fertiliser support would significantly enhance food production, improve harvest yields and strengthen the economic well-being of farming families across the district. She commended Erondu Jnr for demonstrating genuine concern for rural farmers, particularly women, and urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the fertilisers to maximize agricultural output.

Also speaking, the APC State Woman Leader, Mrs. Chino Erondu, described the programme as a people-oriented intervention aimed at empowering women, enhancing food security and promoting economic self-reliance. According to her, women remain the backbone of agricultural production in many communities and deserve adequate support to improve productivity and household incomes.

In his remarks, elder statesman, Elder Godwin Obioma Nna, described Erondu Jnr as a practical farmer who understands the challenges confronting farmers and appreciates the critical importance of fertiliser during the planting season. He noted that the intervention reflects the lawmaker’s commitment to food security, economic empowerment and grassroots development.

Nna particularly commended the distribution of 2000 bags of fertiliser to the 65 wards of Abia South across party lines, stressing that the gesture would greatly benefit women and other vulnerable farmers in the communities.

Former Commissioner for Information, Hon. Don Ubani, and the Federal Commissioner, representing Abia State in Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Dimgba Eruba also lauded the initiative, describing it as a strategic investment in food production and rural economic growth. They noted that access to fertiliser remains one of the major challenges facing farmers and commended Erondu Jnr for taking proactive steps to address the problem.

Former federal lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley; APC Chairman in Ukwa East Local Government Area, Comrade Chiwuike Ekeke; and several community leaders also expressed gratitude to Erondu Jnr for extending the programme to communities across Ukwa East and Ukwa West, describing it as a major boost to agricultural activities and economic development in the zone.

The APC Abia South Zonal Chairman, Hon. Justice Onwumelu, described the fertiliser distribution programme as a practical demonstration of responsive and visionary leadership. According to him, Erondu Jnr has continued to distinguish himself through impactful initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of ordinary people, particularly farmers and small-scale entrepreneurs. He added that the intervention would not only boost agricultural productivity but also contribute significantly to food sufficiency and economic growth across the senatorial district.

In a remarkable display of bipartisan support, the PDP Ukwa-East LGA Chairman, Hon. Israel Bebe; the PDP Ukwa-West LGA Chairman, Hon. Ben Nwachi; the Ugwunagbo PDP Chairman, Hon. Emeka Kalu; the Obingwa PDP Chairman, Hon. Ahamefula Ikonne; alongside their counterparts from Aba North, Aba South and other local government areas, reaffirmed their unwavering support for Erondu Jnr and his developmental vision for Abia South.

The party leaders reiterated their commitment to rainbow coalition and pledged to deploy their political structures and grassroots networks to mobilise support and secure overwhelming votes for him in the January 16, 2027 Abia South Senatorial Election, irrespective of party affiliation. They maintained that their endorsement was based on his proven leadership capacity, empowerment programmes, commitment to grassroots development and vision for inclusive growth rather than partisan considerations.

They further called on stakeholders, youths, women, community leaders and the electorate across the district to unite behind a common cause that transcends political divides and focuses on the collective advancement of the people. The leaders also declared their readiness to engage their communities and work tirelessly toward ensuring victory in 2027.

Similarly, Hon. Uzo Azubuike and other stakeholders in Abia South, unanimously lauded the lawmaker representing Obingwa-West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly for his consistent empowerment programmes and dedication to the welfare of the people.

Meanwhile, the APC Abia South Senatorial Candidate, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr thanked stakeholders for their unwaivering supports and promised not to relent in his quest to reposition Abia South come 2027.
