Gov Yusuf’s Defection Plan Lacks Party Approval — NNPP Chairman

The Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Hashimu Dungurawa, has said that the alleged plan by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and some party members to defect to the All Progressives Congress did not receive the consent or approval of the party at either the state or national level.

Abia Radio News reports that Dungurawa, who is backed by the party’s national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, made this known in an interview with Vanguard, while reacting to growing speculations about an impending political realignment in the state.

The NNPP chairman said the party was aware of discussions involving some individuals planning to defect, but stressed that the leadership had rejected such moves.

He said, “On behalf of the NNPP in Kano State and at the national level, and all segments of this movement, including our youths, women and patriotic citizens, we are aware of developments involving individuals planning to defect to the APC.

“I want to make it clear that the Kano State party, the national party and our national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, do not approve of this move.”

He added that efforts had been made to prevail on those involved to reconsider their decision.

“We have done everything possible to persuade them to be patient and remain in the party,” Dungurawa said.

Dungurawa warned that abandoning the party would amount to a betrayal of the masses who entrusted their mandate to the NNPP.

He appealed to party members to remain committed to the movement’s ideals and to focus on governance and development.

The party chairman urged members to stay united and work collectively to deliver on the NNPP’s campaign promises.

He said party faithful should concentrate on improving critical sectors such as education, agriculture and commerce in line with the party’s manifesto, rather than engaging in political defections.
