Why APC’s 2027 Victory Is Not Guaranteed Despite Presence Of 30 Governors – Aregbesola

National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has dismissed the defection of governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He argued that the presence of governors in the party would not guarantee APC’s victory in the 2027 election.

Speaking at the launch of a book written by the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, Aregbesola said that if previous elections were anything to go by, the assertion that the APC is sure of victory in 2027 is not true.

He recalled that the situation in the South East and even the South West in the last election is a pointer that governors don’t guarantee election victory.

He said, “There is this assertion going around which is worrisome, because those of us who are democrats, they said because 30 governors are supporting a party, and for that reason, that party is going to win the election.

“Recent statistics in Nigeria do not support this. But I want the members to know that the last election in this country, and the results from that election, never supports this particular belief.

“I will use the results from two zones. South West and South East to puncture this argument that governors define electoral victory for parties.”

He said that despite the overwhelming number of APC Governors in the South West in 2023, the party only had 55 per cent of the votes.
