Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, on Friday, congratulated Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over the court judgment that nullified her six-month suspension from the Nigerian Senate.<\/h2>\n
Ezekwesili described the Abuja Federal High Court ruling as a victory against injustice and a reaffirmation of democratic values, charging the Senate to immediately correct its misstep.<\/p>\n
Justice Binta Fatima Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court had earlier declared the suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan unconstitutional, ordering her immediate recall to the Senate.<\/p>\n
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, was suspended in May following her allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.<\/p>\n
But Justice Nyako ruled that the Senate\u2019s decision violated the 1999 Constitution and denied the people of Kogi Central their right to adequate representation.<\/p>\n
Reacting to the development via a post on \ud835\udd4f (formerly Twitter), Ezekwesili hailed the judgment and commended Akpoti-Uduaghan for standing firm in the face of intimidation.<\/p>\n
