Ed Sheeran Showcases Debut Collection Of Jackson Pollock-Esque Art

British pop star Ed Sheeran has swapped a microphone for paint brushes, with the fruits of his endeavours to go on display later this week, the London gallery exhibiting his works confirmed Wednesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n The abstract pieces \u2014 colourful Jackson Pollock-esque paintings and prints \u2014 will be available to buy, with part of the proceeds going to the Ed Sheeran Foundation, which supports musical education in schools.<\/p>\n They\u00a0are also set to be exhibited at Heni art gallery in central London from Friday until August 1, with the collection called \u201cCosmic\u00a0Carpark\u00a0Paintings\u201d, the gallery said.<\/p>\n Sheeran, 34, behind smash hits like \u201cShape of You\u201d and \u201cPerfect\u201d, took to social media earlier this week to share the news, explaining he worked on the paintings last year in between shows.<\/p>\n He also shared a video of his painting process at work, showing him splashing large canvases with brightly coloured paint.<\/p>\n \u201cI love painting, more for fun and to give to friends, but this time I was encouraged to do a show of them by @damienhirst and @heni,\u201d he posted on Instagram.<\/p>\n \u201cI paint when I\u2019m not working on a record, just to do something creative with my brain. And it\u2019s mostly just splashing colours on canvases, think Jackson Pollock but with colourful house paint.\u201d<\/p>\n Sheeran added that did not make him \u201can artist\u201d but noted that he loves \u201cmaking art\u201d and that \u201cit makes me feel great, and I love the end result\u201d.<\/p>\n Heni, which said Sheeran\u2019s \u201cpainting journey\u201d began in 2019 following his record-breaking Divide tour, noted he used one of his earlier creations as the official artwork\u00a0for\u00a0his single \u201cAfterglow\u201d in 2020.<\/p>\n The colourful pieces in his debut collection were \u201cinspired by celestial patterns\u201d and painted in a disused London carpark last year, it added.<\/p>\n Singer, songwriter, and performer Sheeran is one of the most listened to artists in the world.<\/p>\n He also makes the list of the 40 richest people under 40 in the UK, with a fortune estimated at \u00a3370 million ($504 million), according to the Sunday Times\u2019 latest annual wealth rankings of Britons.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
