While there have been debates as to which region the President should come from in the 2027 election, especially with the newly formed coalition on the plaftform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Musawa said power should remain in southern Nigeria for the sake of fairness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, it is understandable that after eight years of President Buhari, who is from the North, power needed to shift down to the South, right? So now, you know how it is\u2014for the next two years, four years, it is going to be with the southern presidency, and hopefully, power should continue for the next four years after that to be with the southern presidency only to create that sort of balance,\u201d the minister said on Friday during an interview on Channnels <em>Television\u2019s Sunrise Daily<\/em> on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, one day we\u2019ll be able to get over that, and candidates will only be judged on their capacity and what they have to bring to the table. But since we are not there yet, for the benefit of this politics now, power should certainly, for the next four to six years, remain in the southern part of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Power should stay in the south for the next 6 years to create a balance.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, one day, we\u2019d be able to get over zoning issues and ensure candidates would only be judged based on their capacity and what they bring to the table.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative\u2026 <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RNlXQOvYi2\">pic.twitter.com\/RNlXQOvYi2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Channels Television (@channelstv) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/channelstv\/status\/1943595175915163713?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 11, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><strong>ADC Member\u2019s \u2018Strategy\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On Tuesday, actor-turned-politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, advised the ADC to pick a northerner as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.<\/p>\n<p>Okonkwo, a member of the opposition ADC, said President <a href=\"https:\/\/abianewscentral.com.ng\/tinubu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu <\/a>was guaranteed a return ticket if the coalition platform, which enjoys the membership of top politicians, fields a southern flagbearer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy strategy this time around is that I am going to support a northerner in 2027,\u201d Okonkwo said on Channels Television\u2019s\u00a0<em>Politics Today.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt must be a northerner that the whole north is willing to support. If the whole north is willing to support Atiku, why not? If the whole north is willing to support Tambuwal, why not? The person must be qualified, and if he has experience in the Presidency, it is an added advantage, and when he puts up something from the South, that will push him through,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>\u2018Zoning is Important\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>However, Musawa, one of the youngest ministers in Tinubu\u2019s cabinet and from the northern region, said maintaining the power-sharing deal was key to the country\u2019s stability and giving people a sense of belonging.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think zoning is important only because we have not been able to get over the doldrums of ethnicity, and we\u2019re not looking at ourselves as Nigeria, and I think you spoke about that poem, \u2018I am a Nigerian\u2019 that I wrote and produced, a couple of months ago, which will be coming back onto the airways very soon,\u201d the minister said on the breakfast show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, now we have not gotten over that, and because we\u2019ve not gotten over that, I think every part of Nigeria, or rather the different\u2014 the north and the south\u2014have to feel as if they\u2019re being carried along.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Zoning Splits PDP,\u00a0 Wike Insists On Southern Presidency<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Zone 2027 Ticket To South Or Face Doom, Wike Warns PDP\" width=\"740\" height=\"416\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jRdwQjland0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>In 2023, Nigeria\u2019s leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), fielded former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the northern region as its candidate.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) zoned its ticket to the southern region and produced <a href=\"https:\/\/abianewscentral.com.ng\/tinubu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu <\/a>as its candidate.<\/p>\n<p>PDP\u2019s decision, however, did not go down well with some members of its party, notably a former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, who believed it was the southern region\u2019s turn to produce a president.<\/p>\n<p>Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, supported Tinubu\u2019s presidential ambition. He accused the PDP of going against its constitution by not zoning the presidency to the South.
