We are not criminals \u2013 FG replies Ghanaians

The federal government of Nigeria has roundly condemned the protest by some Ghanaians calling on Nigerians to be deported from the West African country for alleged involvement in all forms of crimes and criminality.<\/p>\n
Reacting through the Chairman\/ CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the federal government described the blanket ban as outrageous against Nigerians and branding them as criminals as unacceptable.<\/p>\n
\u201cNigerians are not criminals. They are good Ambassadors wherever they find themselves while those bad ones should be fished out and face the necessary sanctions.<\/p>\n
\u201cGhana and Nigeria are like siamese twins. They are brothers and such in the spirit of ECOWAS and regional integration should continue to live in peace like brothers,\u201d Dabiri-Erewa pointed out.<\/p>\n
While appealing for calm, the federal government urged Nigerians living in Ghana not to be provoked or go into violence with anyone, assuring that matter is being handled diplomatically.<\/p>\n
The government at the centre which advised against the use of inciteful words, called on Nigerians to disregard the videos showing that Nigerians\u2019 shops and properties are destroyed by Ghanaians.<\/p>\n
The federal government commended Ghanaian and Nigeria High Commissioners for their efforts to control the situation.<\/p>\n
Recall, a viral video seen on Monday show protesters, numbering hundreds, carried placards with inscriptions such as \u201cArmed robbery and violent attacks must stop,\u201d \u201cOur health at stake due to mass prostitution,\u201d \u201cNigerians are kidnapping and using people for rituals,\u201d and \u201cOur kids are getting missing because of Igbos.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
