President Tinubu Names Omotenioye Majekodunmi As New NCCC Director-General

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Omotenioye Majekodunmi as Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).<\/h2>\n

The appointment was confirmed in a press release on Thursday from the State House.<\/p>\n

Naija News<\/strong> reports that Majekodunmi replaces Dr. Nkiruka Madueke<\/strong>, the pioneer head of the council, who was appointed by the President in June 2024.<\/p>\n

The statement described Majekodunmi as a climate finance expert and environmental lawyer with over seventeen years of experience.<\/p>\n

Prior to her appointment, Majekodunmi served as the Financial Adviser for the NCCC and is credited for her dedicated service in shaping Nigeria\u2019s climate policies and international engagements.<\/p>\n

The statement noted that the fresh appointment is in line with the commitment of the Tinubu administration to tackling the challenges of climate change.<\/p>\n

President Tinubu also appreciated the outgoing Director-General, Dr. Madueke, for her dedicated service and the strong foundation she laid for the Council\u2019s continued growth.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has advised President Bola Tinubu to privatize the Port Harcourt Refinery<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The association made the appeal in a statement on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Joseph Obele<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

PETROAN, which lamented the inefficiency, corruption and favouritism in the management of Nigeria\u2019s refineries by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, said if the Port Harcourt refinery is privatized, there will be improved accountability, global competitiveness, and higher revenue for the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t good news. Plans to sell Warri and Kaduna refineries while keeping Port Harcourt under NNPC management are concerning, given NNPC\u2019s history of corruption and favoritism,<\/em>\u201d Obele said.<\/p>\n

Speaking further, the PETROAN official stated that NNPC\u2019s handling of the country\u2019s refineries had led to fuel scarcity, higher prices, and economic hardship, and added that its poor track record highlighted the need for reform.<\/p>\n

According to him, privatising the Port Harcourt refinery would bring benefits such as increased productivity, investment, expertise, job creation, and better product supply.<\/p>\n
