Amy Okonkwo has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2025 FIBA Women\u2019s AfroBasket following Nigeria\u2019s dominant performance at the tournament in Abidjan, C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire.<\/h2>\n
Naija News<\/strong> reports that Amy Okonkwo and her teammates beat Mali 78-64 in the final held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville on Sunday night, August. The win marks Nigeria\u2019s fifth consecutive AfroBasket Women\u2019s title and their seventh overall.<\/p>\n Okonkwo, 28, who plays forward for the Nigerian women\u2019s basketball team becomes only the second Nigerian to win back-to-back MVP awards at the competition, following Mfon Udoka\u2019s achievements in 2003 and 2005.<\/p>\n Under the leadership of Head Coach Rena Wakama, Okonkwo was instrumental in both offence and defence throughout the tournament, delivering consistent performances that earned her the individual award.<\/p>\n Reacting to the team\u2019s historic feat, former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, congratulated D\u2019Tigress in a statement titled \u201cMISSION V ACCOMPLISHED.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cCongratulations, D\u2019Tigress!
