{"id":233782,"date":"2025-08-05T14:46:23","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T14:46:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abianewscentral.com.ng\/sowore-faults-rotational-presidency-says-nigeria-needs-good-leader\/"},"modified":"2025-08-05T14:46:23","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T14:46:23","slug":"sowore-faults-rotational-presidency-says-nigeria-needs-good-leader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/sowore-faults-rotational-presidency-says-nigeria-needs-good-leader\/","title":{"rendered":"Sowore Faults Rotational Presidency, Says Nigeria Needs Good Leader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sowore Faults Rotational Presidency, Says Nigeria Needs Good Leader<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>A former presidential candidate and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has faulted the rotational presidency in Nigeria.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sowore, in an appearance on the Tuesday edition of Channels Television\u2019s breakfast show, <em>Sunrise Daily,\u00a0<\/em> says the country should be interested in a president who will run Nigeria better, irrespective of his region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I have a good president in Nigeria, who can run this country very well, I don\u2019t care where he comes from,\u201d Sowore said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is what the majority of the Nigerian people are aspiring for. That is the idea of this federation that all the federating units should be able to have an opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you zone it to the north, the majority of the northerners would want to take a shot at it. When you zone it back to the south, the south of Nigeria is not Yoruba or Igbo alone. It is just senseless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Sowore, every presidential hopeful should be given a chance irrespective of their region.<\/p>\n<p>In doing this, he explained that certain parameters like qualifications, manifestos, among others, should be considered, rather than the person\u2019s geo-political zone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZoning the presidency to the worst character in the country is not going to make you get anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGive everybody a chance. That is why they said, \u2018Come and contest for president, governor, local government chairman, and present your agenda, speak to us, and we will look at your character, exposure, and vote for you\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The issue of rotational presidency has been a burning topic recently, with power brokers believing that the presidency should be retained in the country\u2019s southern region.<\/p>\n<p>Incumbent President Bola Tinubu, a Southerner from Lagos State, swept to power in the 2023 general polls.<\/p>\n<p>He succeeded former President Muhammadu Buhari, from Katsina State in the northern region, who completed the constitutionally mandated eight years in office.<\/p>\n<p>While many believe the South still has another term, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a Northerner from Adamawa State, is eyeing the nation\u2019s top job.<\/p>\n<p>He, alongside other opposition leaders, has repeatedly called for a coalition to end the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Omoyele Sowore,Rotational Presidency<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/2025\/08\/05\/sowore-faults-rotational-presidency-in-nigeria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sowore Faults Rotational Presidency, Says Nigeria Needs Good Leader \u00a0 A former presidential candidate and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has faulted the rotational presidency in Nigeria.
