The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may offer former President, Goodluck Jonathan, an automatic presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections if he agrees to return fully to partisan politics and assume a more active role in the party.<\/h2>\n
Naija News<\/strong> reports that this indication was given by the PDP\u2019s National Financial Secretary, Daniel Woyengikuro<\/strong>, during an interview in Abuja, where he described Jonathan as the \u201cnational leader\u201d of the party and a figure still widely respected across political divides.<\/p>\n Woyengikuro did not mince words about the former president\u2019s stature within the party and the country at large, insisting that Jonathan remains the party\u2019s most formidable option.<\/p>\n He said, \u201cIs he not the best candidate for us at this moment? <\/em><\/p>\n \u201cHe is not just a former president; he is the leader of the party now. Aside from [former President Olusegun] Obasanjo, the next person in line is him. Goodluck Jonathan is the national leader of this party.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Woyengikuro further disclosed that high-level consultations are ongoing between the PDP leadership and Jonathan\u2019s allies to woo him back into active leadership as the party works to reposition itself ahead of 2027.<\/p>\n He further stated, \u201cNigeria has reached a point where we need to salvage this country, for our generation and for those to come. When we talk about the Southern Presidency, someone like Goodluck Jonathan stands out.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n When pressed on whether the party would consider granting Jonathan an automatic ticket if he rejoined the presidential race, Woyengikuro responded affirmatively.<\/p>\n \u201cFor me, that\u2019s what I firmly stand for.
