It became a voice, an archive, and a rallying point for the Arochukwu community.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1461\" height=\"2000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/17552775639463015031040136424540.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34552\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/17552775639463015031040136424540.jpg 1461w, https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/17552775639463015031040136424540-768x1051.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/17552775639463015031040136424540-1122x1536.jpg 1122w, https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/17552775639463015031040136424540-750x1027.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/17552775639463015031040136424540-1140x1561.jpg 1140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1461px) 100vw, 1461px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Lady Eucharia Oti<br \/>Woman Editor<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em><strong>From Community Support to Formal Structure<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>As the years passed, the publication drew the admiration of community leaders, welfare groups, and the palace of the late monarch, Eze Vincent Ogbonnaya Okoro, whose cabinet \u2014 the Okpankpo Aro \u2014 recognized its value.<\/p>\n<p>After a few years of operation, and thinking ahead about sustainability of the project, Dr Okoro and his pioneer team, particularly the editor, Mazi Ben Ezuma, worked out an arrangement with Nzuko Arochukwu meant to enhance circulation and marketing of the newspaper using the union\u2019s branches as sales outlets. In the arrangement, publicity secretaries of the union were designated as representatives and appropriate sales commission was worked out. However, it was in 2005 that a major shift occurred when the then President-General of Nzuko Arochukwu Worldwide, Mazi Emma Kanu Ivi, was approached to help secure the future of the paper.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"672\" height=\"813\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/img-20250815-wa00263709931226323374517.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34544\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mazi Emma Kanu Ivi<br \/>Chairman, Board of Directors<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em>\u201cThe only way to sustain this good project,\u201d <\/em>Mazi Ivi recalls telling Dr. Okoro,<em> \u201cwas to register it with the Corporate Affairs Commission so it would be legally structured and outlive us.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With his guidance, the paper was registered with the CAC, introducing shareholding from the outset \u2014 a key step that would later allow broader community ownership. The Assistant Secretary-General of Nzuko Arochukwu Worldwide, Mazi Amaechi Emma Onyema, was equally designated to represent the union in Aro News Management to oversee the marketing arrangement via its branches that subsisted.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/img-20250815-wa0035596075326064696791.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34545\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/img-20250815-wa0035596075326064696791.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/img-20250815-wa0035596075326064696791-75x75.jpg 75w, https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/img-20250815-wa0035596075326064696791-350x350.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa OFR <br \/>Director<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong><em>Privatization and the 2009 Turning Point<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By 2009, as his tenure as President-General was coming to an end, Mazi Ivi pushed for privatization.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI knew I would not be president forever,\u201d he explains. \u201cWe needed to give it to the people \u2014 to call in investors, make it transparent, and ensure it was owned beyond one administration.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This was consistent with the strategic vision of the founder, Mazi Azubike Okoro who had before proceeding overseas for his doctoral degree pursuit donated the project to Arochukwu kingdom in 2006, requesting that it should be managed for corporate Aro interests. The company\u2019s original documents were received by His Majesty, Mazi Ogbonnaya Okoro himself and handed over to Mazi Emma Kanu Ivi after blessing same, directing that it should be prudently managed. Initial reactions were skeptical, but gradually shareholders came on board, including women and diaspora Aro indigenes.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"720\" height=\"1079\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/img-20250816-wa00063602315848597481923.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34564\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafor<br \/>Director<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em><strong>Challenges, Struggles, and Sacrifices<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Privatization was not without its hurdles. This process was repeated and strengthened in subsequent years.<\/p>\n<p>Even when false filings were made against the company at CAC, the leadership resisted retaliatory legal action.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"1280\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/img-20250816-wa00103820483050047112705.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34570\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mazi Ik Onu<br \/>Director<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em>\u201cMistakes shouldn\u2019t destroy a project like this,\u201d says Mazi Ivi. \u201cWe focused on correcting the records and moving forward.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>By 2016, bureaucratic delays had slowed some reforms, but the board persisted, ensuring that Aro News was fully compliant and structurally sound.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"720\" height=\"1080\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jungle-journalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/img-20250815-wa00304936662411017070935.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34553\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Dr Kanu Ohuche<br \/>Member, Editorial Board<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em><strong>A Milestone Year: The 2024 AGM and First Dividend<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The 2024 Annual General Meeting marked a historic milestone. Traditionally publishing three editions yearly, the paper has experimented with special and extra editions to honour distinguished Aro personalities. Over time, a diverse and skilled team has helped the paper overcome numerous challenges.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cA few years ago, I and one of our directors, Mazi J.C. Imuoh, had a very serious accident on our way to Aro at Ovia River in Benin. Our vehicle was a write-off and we lost the whole production for that Ikeji period as well as other materials we were conveying to Aro. It was God that saved our lives because our car rammed into a Dangote truck. We spent money to defend ourselves.
