{"id":234636,"date":"2025-08-18T17:14:05","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T17:14:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abianewscentral.com.ng\/instead-of-abusing-the-judge-prove-you-are-not-terrorist-organisations\/"},"modified":"2025-08-18T17:14:05","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T17:14:05","slug":"instead-of-abusing-the-judge-prove-you-are-not-terrorist-organisations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/instead-of-abusing-the-judge-prove-you-are-not-terrorist-organisations\/","title":{"rendered":"Instead Of Abusing The Judge, Prove You Are Not Terrorist Organisations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Instead Of Abusing The Judge, Prove You Are Not Terrorist Organisations<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">\n<h2>Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prove that they are not terrorist organisations.<\/h2>\n<p>Recall that a Canadian Federal Court had described both parties as entities that have engaged in conduct amounting to terrorism under Canadian law.<\/p>\n<p>The judge, Justice Phuong Ngo, made the declaration while dismissing the asylum appeal of a Nigerian, Douglas Egharevba, ruling that Nigeria\u2019s two main political parties, APC and PDP, were \u201cterrorist organisations\u201d because they allegedly use violence, coercion and subversion of democratic institutions in their bid to acquire political power.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3 ai-track\" data-ai=\"WzMsMCwiSXNhYWMiLCIiLDRd\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSd3GiRw0g6bOS3kAtHb1Yhc5Jic6iTkM9pA5DhIB13uZgDpGQ\/viewform?usp=sharing&amp;ouid=102633326415294296882\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazyloaded=\"1\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1026109\" src=\"https:\/\/www.naijanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-08-09-at-16.23.48.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1026109\" src=\"https:\/\/www.naijanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-08-09-at-16.23.48.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"\/><\/noscript><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Speaking on the development in a statement on Monday, Falana urged Nigeria\u2019s major political parties to address the serious concerns raised, instead of dismissing the judge\u2019s pronouncements as ignorant or mischievous.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>It is common knowledge that APC and PDP rig elections and announce fake results with the assistance of armed thugs, police and military personnel,\u201d<\/em> Falana said, adding that violence, killings and attacks on voters have repeatedly marred electoral processes without perpetrators being brought to justice.<\/p>\n<p>The activist criticised both parties for their immediate reactions to the ruling, with the APC calling the judge \u201cignorant\u201d and the PDP describing the decision as \u201cmischievous\u201d, saying these responses failed to address the substantive issues raised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Instead of abusing the Canadian judge, the APC and PDP should urgently adopt legal measures to prove that they are not terrorist organisations,\u201d<\/em> he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Falana further advised the Federal Government to urgently engage immigration lawyers to intervene in the matter, warning that the ruling could lead to widespread denial of visas or deportation of Nigerians abroad who are members of the APC and PDP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>If the ruling is registered in the United States, United Kingdom, France and elsewhere, members of the APC and PDP may have their visas revoked and may be deported,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n<p>He argued that the federal government\u2019s protest to the Canadian authorities would not reverse the judgment and urged Nigerian security agencies and judges to compel political parties and their members to operate strictly within constitutional and legal boundaries, particularly during elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The federal government should hire immigration lawyers to take urgent action to remove the stigma of infamy contained in the judgment.
