{"id":234641,"date":"2025-08-18T19:57:59","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T19:57:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abianewscentral.com.ng\/why-kwankwaso-may-not-support-tinubu-in-2027-galadima\/"},"modified":"2025-08-18T19:57:59","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T19:57:59","slug":"why-kwankwaso-may-not-support-tinubu-in-2027-galadima","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/why-kwankwaso-may-not-support-tinubu-in-2027-galadima\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Kwankwaso May Not Support Tinubu In 2027 \u2013 Galadima"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Why Kwankwaso May Not Support <a href=\"https:\/\/abianewscentral.com.ng\/tinubu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu <\/a>In 2027 \u2013 Galadima<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria People\u2019s Party (NNPP), has dismissed the possibility that the strongman of Kano politics, Rabiu Kwankwaso, would join forces with President Bola <a href=\"https:\/\/abianewscentral.com.ng\/tinubu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu <\/a>for him to win a re-election in 2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Galadima, who was a guest on Channels Television\u2019s<em> Politics Today<\/em> programme on Monday, said\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/abianewscentral.com.ng\/tinubu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu <\/a>presidency has treated Kwankwaso and the NNPP badly in Kano by backing the ousted Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, despite his removal by Governor Abba Kabir of the NNPP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow can a Kwankwaso be a friend of the APC with what they are doing to us in Kano? Appointing two emirs in one town? There is a Federal Government emir and a state emir. Who\u2019s got the responsibility to appoint emirs and pay them their salaries?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have their emirs. They have not less than 40 pickup vehicles filled with mobile police guarding the Emir (Ado Bayero).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn some localities in Kano, they are killing people and taking their handsets, and the police are tied down. While not as dramatic and shocking as the popular American fantasy drama series, \u2018Game of Thrones\u2019, its latest twist is the stuff of a movie script, where either a centuries-old tradition or politics wins.<\/p>\n<p>Two royal families have been in a supremacy battle in the ancient city: the Bayero and the Sanusi families. Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II beat Aminu Ado Bayero to succeed the latter\u2019s father, Emir Ado Bayero, in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Three months shy of six years later, he would be deposed for his predecessor\u2019s son, Aminu Ado Bayero, amid a fallout with the state governor at the time, Abdullahi Ganduje. Four years and a change of governor later, Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was reinstated as Kano emir by Governor Kabir on May 23, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>However, Sanusi\u2019s reinstatement has been contested in various courts, with security agents fully guarding his palace.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_870461\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-870461\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-870461\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"350\" data-lazy-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/kano-.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/kano--300x162.jpg 300w\" data-lazy-sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/kano-.jpg\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-870461\" src=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/kano-.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/kano-.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/kano--300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\"\/><\/noscript><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-870461\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kano is in North-West Nigeria.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Galadima said a federal high court has no business delivering a judgment in a chieftaincy matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the first place, was it not <a href=\"https:\/\/abianewscentral.com.ng\/tinubu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu <\/a>who canvassed for Sanusi to become emir? Let him come out and tell me that he didn\u2019t, and I will give him instances,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The NNPP chieftain claimed the Federal Government is using the police and other security agencies to destabilise Kano.<\/p>\n<p>According to Galadima, the Federal Government is keeping Emir Bayero because they think he would help them in the 2027 election but said no Kano emir has ever determined the victory of a Nigerian president.<\/p>\n<p>Galadima said Kwankwaso has not told him that he would back the All Progressives Congress (APC) or <a href=\"https:\/\/abianewscentral.com.ng\/tinubu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu <\/a>in the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet anybody come out and tell me that he met Kwankwaso and he canvassed or persuaded him or coerced him to join the APC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI assume if anybody talks to him about that, I ought to know.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is the strongest political Iroko in this country today because he dared the APC and defeated them at their game in Kano,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_877961\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-877961\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-877961\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"350\" data-lazy-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/ondo-election-34.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/ondo-election-34-300x162.jpg 300w\" data-lazy-sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/ondo-election-34.jpg\"\/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-877961\" src=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/ondo-election-34.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/ondo-election-34.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/ondo-election-34-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\"\/><\/noscript><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-877961\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">FILE: Some voters join the queue in a polling booth in Nigeria.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Quest For Kano Votes<\/h3>\n<p>Historically, since Nigeria\u2019s return to democracy in 1999, the northern region of the country, especially Kano, has always had the highest voter turnout at presidential elections, making it a darling of politicians jostling for the Aso Rock top job.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, in the 2023 presidential election, Kano had about 1.7 million cumulative votes. NNPP\u2019s Kwankwaso scored 997,279, APC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/abianewscentral.com.ng\/tinubu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu <\/a>polled 517,341 votes, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got 131,716 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party got 28,513 votes. Of the 44 local government areas in Kano, Kwankwaso won in 38 of them.<\/p>\n<p>However, Kwankwaso secured 1,496,687 total votes and came in distant fourth in the election won by APC\u2019s Tinubu, who garnered 8,794,726 total votes.
