The New Nigeria People\u2019s Party (NNPP) has dismissed the purported expulsion of\u00a0 lawmaker representing Kiru\/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State,\u00a0Abdulmumin Jibrin, describing it as \u201cbaseless and unauthorised.\u201d<\/h2>\n

In a statement issued in Abuja late Saturday, the party\u2019s National Secretary, Oginni Sunday,<\/strong> said the announcement lacked legitimacy.<\/p>\n

Naija News<\/strong> reports that Sunday explained that the declaration was made by Hashim Dungurawa<\/strong>, a former Kano State chairman who had earlier been expelled from the NNPP.<\/p>\n

He described Dungurawa\u2019s action as \u201ca joke taken too far,\u201d adding that \u201ca non-member cannot attempt to expel a sitting federal lawmaker.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The party further cited an April 2, 2025, judgment of a Federal Capital Territory High Court and a ruling from an Abia <\/a>State High Court, which confirmed the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and his allies, including Dungurawa.<\/p>\n

Rift With Kwankwasiyya<\/h2>\n

According to Sunday, Jibrin\u2019s refusal to align with Kwankwaso\u2019s camp angered the Kwankwasiyya movement, which allegedly sought to undermine him in retaliation.<\/p>\n

He warned that Governor Abba Yusuf\u2019s continued loyalty to Kwankwaso could jeopardise NNPP\u2019s hold on Kano in 2027.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the smartest ways for Yusuf to secure a win in Kano in 2027 is to travel to Lagos and tender an apology to the party\u2019s founder and leadership,\u201d<\/em> Sunday advised.<\/p>\n

Jibrin, a former Director-General of the Tinubu <\/a>Support Group and a key political figure in Kano, rejected the decision, calling it \u201ca rude shock.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe interview I granted in English and Hausa, which the party cited, should not warrant such a heavy penalty,\u201d <\/em>he said. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cNo invitation was extended to me to defend myself before any organ of the party. Even under a military dictatorship, an accused is subjected to a court-martial.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

On allegations of defaulting in financial obligations, Jibrin denied the claims. \u201cLet them issue me an invoice and I will settle it promptly,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The lawmaker also berated the party for what he described as poor recognition of members\u2019 efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe party does not believe anybody has political value or deserves respect at various levels,\u201d<\/em> Jibrin said.<\/p>\n
