{"id":236426,"date":"2025-10-10T13:41:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-10T13:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.name.ng\/news\/makinde-accuses-umahi-of-dodging-questions-on-cost-of-lagos-calabar-coastal-highway\/"},"modified":"2025-10-10T13:41:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T13:41:08","slug":"makinde-accuses-umahi-of-dodging-questions-on-cost-of-lagos-calabar-coastal-highway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/makinde-accuses-umahi-of-dodging-questions-on-cost-of-lagos-calabar-coastal-highway\/","title":{"rendered":"Makinde Accuses Umahi of Dodging Questions on Cost of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p data-start=\"111\" data-end=\"342\">Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has criticised the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, accusing him of evading questions about the cost of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project approved by President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"344\" data-end=\"588\">Makinde, who spoke on Friday, was reacting to Umahi\u2019s heated exchange with Arise TV presenter Rufai Oseni earlier in the week, during which the minister declined to provide a cost breakdown of the project on a per-kilometre basis.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"590\" data-end=\"859\">Oseni had asked Umahi to explain the project\u2019s cost per kilometre, a question the minister dismissed as \u201celementary,\u201d insisting that the prices vary along different sections of the road and that the journalist lacked the technical knowledge to understand the process.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"861\" data-end=\"874\">Umahi said, \u201cKeep quiet and stop saying what you don\u2019t know. I\u2019m a professor in this field\u2026 The prices are different. The next kilometre is different from the next kilometre.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1044\" data-end=\"1141\">Governor Makinde, however, defended the journalist, saying Umahi\u2019s evasiveness was unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1145\" data-end=\"1331\">\u201cThey asked a minister how much the coastal road is, and then you\u2019re dancing around, saying the next kilometre is different from the next. Then what is the average cost?\u201d Makinde said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1333\" data-end=\"1440\">He compared the coastal project to road works executed under his administration, providing clear figures.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1444\" data-end=\"1735\">\u201cWhen we did the Oyo to Iseyin road, it was about \u20a69.99 billion for roughly 35 kilometres, an average of \u20a6238 million per kilometre.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1444\" data-end=\"1735\">\u201cFor the Iseyin to Ogbomoso road, 76 kilometres cost \u20a643 billion, about \u20a6500 million per kilometre.
