{"id":236624,"date":"2025-10-22T03:46:02","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T03:46:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.name.ng\/news\/abia-ready-to-host-2025-waec-national-council-meeting-gov-otti\/"},"modified":"2025-10-22T03:46:02","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T03:46:02","slug":"abia-ready-to-host-2025-waec-national-council-meeting-gov-otti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/abia-ready-to-host-2025-waec-national-council-meeting-gov-otti\/","title":{"rendered":"Abia Ready To Host 2025 WAEC National Council Meeting \u2014 Gov Otti"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p data-start=\"3276\" data-end=\"3510\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/abia\">Abia <\/a>State Governor, Dr <a href=\"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/Alex\">Alex <\/a>Otti, has assured the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) of the state\u2019s readiness to host the 2025 WAEC Nigerian National Council Meeting scheduled to hold in Umuahia from 17th to 21st November 2025.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3512\" data-end=\"3733\">Governor Otti gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from WAEC, led by the new Branch Controller, Mrs Mary Chima, and her management team, who paid him a courtesy visit in his Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA office.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3735\" data-end=\"3989\">The Governor, who expressed happiness over the choice of <a href=\"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/abia\">Abia <\/a>State to host this year\u2019s WAEC council meeting, thanked the exam body for recognising Abia\u2019s educational strides, adding that preparations were already underway to ensure a successful hosting.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3991\" data-end=\"4252\">\u201cWe already have receipt of your letter and have started making arrangements. I can assure you that we are prepared to host. We consider it a great privilege to be hosting this event. It aligns with everything we are doing with education,\u201d Governor Otti stated.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4254\" data-end=\"4450\">He recalled that upon assuming office in 2023, his administration declared a state of emergency on education, health, security, and environmental sanitation due to years of neglect in the sectors.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4452\" data-end=\"4665\">\u201cEducation was in a very terrible state, not just in terms of infrastructure that completely decayed in virtually all the schools, but also in terms of the quality of teaching and the number of teachers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4667\" data-end=\"4848\">He explained that his administration had embarked on massive school rehabilitation, teacher recruitment, training, and the introduction of smart schools to raise learning standards.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4850\" data-end=\"5029\">Governor Otti stated that over 5,394 new teachers had resumed work under the first phase of recruitment, with plans to hire nearly 5,000 more to improve the teacher-student ratio.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5031\" data-end=\"5227\">He appreciated WAEC for acknowledging the state\u2019s performance in examinations, noting that the administration\u2019s focus was on building a sound educational foundation rather than chasing statistics.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5229\" data-end=\"5406\">\u201cWe are not really focusing on doing well in WAEC. We just want our people to be well-educated, well-taught.
