{"id":236704,"date":"2025-10-23T20:09:48","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T20:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.name.ng\/news\/labour-party-crisis-deepens-as-abure-faction-threatens-legal-action\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T20:09:48","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T20:09:48","slug":"labour-party-crisis-deepens-as-abure-faction-threatens-legal-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/labour-party-crisis-deepens-as-abure-faction-threatens-legal-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Labour Party Crisis Deepens As Abure Faction Threatens Legal Action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The <strong>Julius Abure<\/strong>-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has threatened legal action against the Interim National Chairman of the party, Senator Nenadi Usman, and two of her aides over what it described as repeated attacks on the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the National Publicity Secretary of the Abure camp, Obiora Ifoh, accused Usman\u2019s faction of arrogating to themselves powers they do not possess.<\/p>\n<p>Ofoh, <em>\u201cThe so-called press statement was a clear attempt to blackmail INEC and the Acting Chairman of INEC, for obeying a validly issued court order.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe statement was also crafted to embarrass His Lordship, the judge of the High Court, and to bring the court to public opprobrium and ridicule.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Senator Usman, through her media aide, had earlier called for the arrest of Abure and the Acting INEC Chairman, Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu, accusing them of conspiring to subvert justice in the ongoing leadership tussle within the party.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting, Ifoh described the allegation as \u201cbaseless and politically motivated,\u201d stressing that the judiciary must be protected from undue attacks.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMs Nenadi Usman, through her aide, Asogwa, had called for the arrest of Mrs Agbamuche-Mbu for, according to them, \u2018criminally colluding with Barrister Julius Abure\u2019 to rightfully carry out her job in line with the laws governing the electoral commission,\u201d<\/em> Ifoh noted.<\/p>\n<p>The Abure faction revealed that its legal team had been instructed to take up the matter if Usman\u2019s camp fails to retract its statement.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cConsequently, we have instructed our counsel to write Mr Asogwa, who is also a lawyer, to within the next 72 hours retract the highly offensive and embarrassing statement. Without this, we will be left with no other choice but to petition him to the Nigerian Bar Association for describing a validly issued order of a court as FAKE,\u201d<\/em> Ifoh warned.<\/p>\n<p>He further stressed that the actions of Usman\u2019s camp amounted to bringing the judiciary into disrepute.<\/p>\n<p>Condemning what it described as reckless statements, the Abure-led faction said political grievances must be addressed within the confines of the law.<\/p>\n<p>Ifoh said, <em>\u201cWe view his action as an attempt to bring the judiciary to disrepute. This is moreso for a lawyer who is supposed to defend the integrity of the judiciary.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHe ought to sufficiently know that lawyers argue their matters in court and not on social media.
