The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four senior officials as internal tensions deepen ahead of its national convention. <\/p>\n
The suspension affects the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade; Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; and National Organising Secretary, Umaru Bature.<\/p>\n
The officials are barred for one month and theur matter has also been forwarded to the party\u2019s Disciplinary Committee for further action.<\/p>\n
The party\u2019s spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, confirmed the development after an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee held on Saturday at Legacy House in Abuja. <\/p>\n
He said the NWC acted strictly in line with the PDP constitution and internal disciplinary procedures.<\/p>\n
According to him, the decision followed recent events in the party and the need to maintain order. <\/p>\n
He stated that \u201cthe National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; and National Organizing Secretary have been suspended for one month and referred to the PDP Disciplinary Committee<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n The decision comes shortly after a Federal High Court in Abuja stopped the opposition party from holding its planned national convention. <\/p>\n The court order, delivered by Justice James Omotosho, questioned whether the party could legally proceed with the convention expected to take place in Ibadan next month.<\/p>\n The PDP, however, condemned the ruling. It described the judgment as \u201can assault on Nigeria\u2019s democratic process<\/em>,\u201d insisting the court\u2019s order does not invalidate its preparation for new national leadership. <\/p>\n In its earlier reaction, the party vowed to continue \u201cprocesses and activities towards the National Convention to elect new National Officers to pilot the affairs of the Party for the next four years<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n The PDP also pointed to a recent Supreme Court decision reinforcing the authority of political parties to manage their internal affairs without external interference.
