President Bola Ahmed Tinubu <\/a>has officially received Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri<\/strong>, into the All Progressives Congress (APC), hailing his defection as a \u201csymbol of unity and progress.\u201d<\/p>\n

The formal reception took place on Monday in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, with Vice President, Kashim Shettima representing the President.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, President Tinubu <\/a>lauded Diri\u2019s leadership qualities and commitment to development, saying the governor\u2019s decision to join the ruling party reflected a shared vision for national progress.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cThe All Progressives Congress is a party of those who believe that progress can only be guaranteed when we stand together.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cGovernor Douye Diri, your story mirrors that of your people. Politics is about development, not noise or opposition. We are mightily proud of you. You have made the right decision.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He described Diri\u2019s move as a bold demonstration of maturity and patriotism, adding that Nigeria\u2019s unity must always take precedence over partisan rivalry.<\/p>\n

The President praised Governor Diri for his calm but effective leadership, highlighting his achievements in infrastructure and peacebuilding across Bayelsa State.<\/p>\n

Tinubu <\/a>said, \u201cYou have led with calm dignity, yet with deep commitment to development and peace.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cYou have expanded roads to remote communities, built bridges where there were barriers, and brought light where there was darkness. This is what it means to govern with empathy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He commended the governor for prioritising people-oriented projects and for maintaining stability in a state often characterised by political tension.<\/p>\n

President Tinubu <\/a>described Diri\u2019s entry into the APC as \u201ca homecoming\u201d, saying the party remains open to all leaders committed to Nigeria\u2019s development and democracy.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cYou are now part of a family that thinks and acts together. We welcome you and will support you as the champion you have always been.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
