The results have surprised many, given Obi’s strong political influence in Agulu and Anaocha, areas known for their long-standing loyalty to him.

Though Saturday’s election is not a presidential race, the outcome from Obi’s polling unit has drawn wide attention. Many observers had expected the Labour Party to dominate in his hometown, but the reverse was the case.

Interestingly, the APC’s governorship running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, is also from the area, which may have influenced the voting pattern.

Beyond Obi’s polling unit, early figures from other parts of Amatutu show the APC maintaining a steady lead.

At Polling Unit 015, located at Amatutu Village Hall, APC garnered 117 votes, while APGA got 29 and LP scored 10.

At Polling Unit 023, situated at the Model Primary Health Centre in Agulu, the APC again came out ahead with 25 votes. APGA followed with 8 votes, while LP got 7. Both YPP and ADC recorded one vote each.

The consistent lead by the ruling party across several polling units suggests a possible shift in voter sentiment within Anaocha — a region previously seen as a stronghold for APGA and the Labour Party.

As at the time of this report, collation of results is still ongoing across Anaocha Local Government Area and other parts of the state.

More updates are expected as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues its announcement of verified results.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory at the polling unit of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, in the ongoing election.
