{"id":237216,"date":"2025-11-08T21:49:40","date_gmt":"2025-11-08T21:49:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.name.ng\/news\/anambra-voter-laments-%e2%82%a61000-stipend-for-votes\/"},"modified":"2025-11-08T21:49:40","modified_gmt":"2025-11-08T21:49:40","slug":"anambra-voter-laments-%e2%82%a61000-stipend-for-votes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/anambra-voter-laments-%e2%82%a61000-stipend-for-votes\/","title":{"rendered":"Anambra Voter Laments \u20a61,000 Stipend For Votes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">\n<p>Some voters in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have claimed that they were offered small amounts of money to vote.<\/p>\n<p>A voter, speaking off-camera to the Anambra Broadcasting Cooperation (ABS), expressed anger over the situation.<\/p>\n<p>According to the voter, as at 9:00 am, no one was at the Central School, Obosi, where the voting took place.<\/p>\n<p>She explained that an announcement was later made, urging residents to come out and cast their votes.<\/p>\n<p>She said many people responded and turned out to exercise their civic duty, only to be given \u20a61,000 afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>She described the amount as \u201ctoo small,\u201d considering the stress they went through to participate in the election.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a 21-year-old first-time voter, Chinyere Aniwetalu, has admitted to being paid to vote at Nteje Ward 1, Amuda Village Square Polling Unit 12, in the Saturday Anambra governorship election.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abia Radio News<\/strong> learnt that Chinyere, who spoke with journalists, confirmed receiving money but declined to disclose how much or the political party that paid her.<\/p>\n<p>While expressing excitement about her participation in the election after years of waiting to reach voting age, Chinyere said, \u201cI was paid to vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She explained that she was unable to vote in the 2023 general election because she did not have a Permanent Voter\u2019s Card (PVC) at the time.<\/p>\n<p>She said, \u201c<em>I just got my PVC this year, and I\u2019m happy to use it today.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>At the polling unit, most of the voting had been completed by midday, with several voters seen loitering around, waiting for the sorting of ballots.<\/p>\n<p>INEC officials at the centre told journalists that the process began early, at about 8:00 a.m., and had been smooth so far, although they were still expecting more voters to turn up before the polls closed.<\/p>\n<p>The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, remains a top contender for the governorship poll.<\/p>\n<p><!-- CONTENT END 4 --><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><span class=\"copyright\"><strong>\u00a9 2025 Abia Radio News, a division of Tee Global Innovataions.
