The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to go ahead with its 2025 National Convention this weekend in Ibadan, despite what it calls \u201cdesperate attempts\u201d by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to obstruct the event.<\/p>\n
The main opposition party dismissed claims that the convention had been postponed, insisting it would proceed as planned from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16, 2025.<\/p>\n
In a statement signed by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party\u2019s National Publicity Secretary and Secretary of the Publicity Sub-Committee for the Convention, the PDP urged its members and supporters to ignore \u201cfalse and misleading\u201d reports allegedly spread by the ruling APC.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe National Working Committee, NWC, and the 2025 National Convention Organizing Committee of the PDP informs all party members and the general public that the 2025 National Convention of the PDP has not been postponed but will go on as scheduled on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital,\u201d Ologunagba said.<\/p>\n
PDP accused the ruling APC of sponsoring fake news to cause confusion and derail the party\u2019s internal democratic process. <\/p>\n
The opposition described the ruling party\u2019s actions as a \u201cfailed plot\u201d aimed at weakening the PDP ahead of the convention.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe NWC and the NCOC urge party members and Nigerians in general to disregard misleading claims being peddled to the contrary by some individuals who, it has been revealed, are recruited by the APC in its failed attempt to stop the PDP National Convention,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
Ologunagba further accused the APC of attempting to destabilize the opposition and impose what he called a one-party system on the country. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe are aware of the plots by the APC to destabilize the opposition and impose a one-party state in the country; a design that will be lawfully resisted,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has extended its interim order restraining any interference with the PDP\u2019s planned national convention. <\/p>\n
The order, which was earlier granted to protect the party\u2019s right to assemble, will remain in effect until Friday when the substantive case resumes for hearing.<\/p>\n
However, it could be recalled that a similar order was issued last week by the same court, after reports surfaced alleging internal pressure and political interference to halt preparations for the convention.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
