A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has stated that the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, remains a member of the party despite the political challenges surrounding him.<\/p>\n
Abia Radio News<\/strong> reports that Sani made this known while speaking on Arise Television\u2019s Morning Show on Monday, on Fubara\u2019s failure to attend the party\u2019s recent national convention.<\/p>\n Sani dismissed claims that the party leadership ought to have contacted Fubara directly, stressing that attendance at the convention was open and voluntary to all members.<\/p>\n According to him, there are different landmines placed before Fubara to make him uninterested in participating in politics.<\/p>\n He stated that Fubara\u2019s photo was included in the convention programme because he had not announced his exit from the party, unlike the Governor of Taraba State, who he claimed had openly declared his intention to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n Sani reiterated that the party still recognises Fubara as its member until he publicly declares otherwise.<\/p>\n He said, \u201cYou know that all the landmines placed before him (Fubara) to make him not to be interested in participating in politics is there. He\u2019s neither here nor there. He has not come out publicly to say he\u2019s no longer a member of PDP, and that is why, in our program of activities at the convention, his picture was there, because he\u2019s still a member of the PDP, unless he says otherwise.<\/i><\/p>\n \u201cNow you just told me that the governor of Taraba has just mentioned that he\u2019s completing his medical going on transfer to APC. That makes him, you know, an outgoing member of the PDP. He has already made a declaration. Fubara hasn\u2019t made any declaration, and as far as we are concerned, he\u2019s still a member of the PDP, and there\u2019s nothing we can say other than that.<\/i><\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think there was that need for us speaking to him ahead of the convention because it is an invitation that is extended to every member of the party, you are invited to come or at liberty not to come.
