Bayo Onanuga<\/strong>, has lambasted the newly installed chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, over his public appeal to former United States President Donald Trump.<\/p>\nTuraki, who addressed journalists on Tuesday after gaining entry into the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja following a tense standoff between rival factions, called on Trump and other world powers to \u201csave Nigeria\u2019s democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n
In an emotional media briefing, Turaki said the crisis rocking the opposition party goes beyond internal politics and poses a wider threat to Nigeria\u2019s democratic stability.<\/p>\n
Turaki stated, \u201cI want to call on President Trump; what is at stake is not just genocide against Nigerian Christians.<\/em><\/p>\n\u201cHe should come and save democracy in Nigeria. Democracy is under threat. I\u2019m calling on all other developed nations: come and save Nigeria, come and save democracy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nThe comments came shortly after security operatives and supporters from opposing camps engaged in a prolonged confrontation at Wadata Plaza, Abuja.<\/p>\n
Onanuga, reacting to the video of Turaki\u2019s remarks, described the statement as outrageous and unacceptable.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe shall never forget this video: the day a Nigerian politician committed high treason for calling for a foreign invasion of Nigeria, all because of an intra-party dispute,\u201d<\/em> he wrote.<\/p>\nHe condemned the appeal as a reckless act that undermines national sovereignty, adding that internal party disagreements should never justify calls for external intervention.<\/p>\n
