The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged former Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, to set aside his differences and help restore unity within the party.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
The appeal comes after Lamido\u2019s recent interview, in which he criticised the PDP\u2019s handling of its leadership crisis and referenced a court case he filed over the matter.<\/p>\n
Responding to his remarks, Umar Sani, a close ally of the PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), said several of Lamido\u2019s claims were inaccurate and required clarification.<\/p>\n
According to Sani, Lamido\u2019s assertion that the party violated court directives during its national convention was incorrect, noting that no court barred the PDP from holding the exercise. He explained that the court merely instructed the party to allow Lamido to participate in the contest after due verification, an order the PDP has already appealed at the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
Sani further revealed that another court sitting in Ibadan expressly authorised the party to conduct its convention, adding that the process produced duly elected national officers, contrary to Lamido\u2019s claim that the party is currently without legitimate leadership.<\/p>\n
He appealed to the former governor to show maturity and prioritise the unity of the party over personal grievances.<\/p>\n
\u201cSule Lamido is one of the founding figures of the PDP. At this critical stage, the party needs cohesion, not prolonged litigation,\u201d Sani said. \u201cIf we continue to tie ourselves down with court cases, victory will keep slipping away from us.\u201d<\/p>\n
The PDP leadership also encouraged Lamido to work with Chairman Turaki, emphasising that both men have enjoyed a longstanding cordial relationship and can still help steer the party away from internal conflict.<\/p>\n
