The Nasarawa State chapter of the Labour Party<\/strong> on Saturday elected a new set of executive members who will steer the party\u2019s affairs for the next four years.<\/p>\n Abia Radio News<\/strong> reports that the election, conducted through a consensus arrangement, saw Alexander Ombugu elected as Chairman, Bulus Sakks as Secretary, and Esther Arishi as Treasurer, among others.<\/p>\n Chairman of the Electoral Committee, John Shammah<\/strong>, spoke after the state congress and confirmed that the election process had been approved by the national leadership of the party as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n He emphasised that the party\u2019s focus was on resolving internal issues ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n \u201cWe know the party had gone through a lot of challenges, and those challenges were man-made. So, we said that for us to stop all these issues, we would have to sit down and agree with each other that we must build a united house,\u201d<\/em> Shammah said.<\/p>\n He added that the consensus candidates elected during the congress are expected to lead the party with unity, saying, \u201cOne thing I am happy about is that when we were discussing, we talked frankly among ourselves, and many people expressed themselves truthfully, because we feel that the party has to move on.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n In addition to Ombugu, Sakks, and Arishi, other new executives elected include Isiaka Okpu as Financial Secretary; Ablaku Anthony as Public Relations Officer; Emmanuel Ayaka as Auditor; Hanatu Giwa as Women Leader; Iliya Timidige as Youth Leader; Silas Yileni as Organising Secretary; and Barr. Edogo Zakari as Legal Adviser.<\/p>\n The acting Head of the Department of Election and Political Party Monitoring in Nasarawa State, Mohammed Hamza<\/strong>, represented INEC at the congress.<\/p>\n He expressed satisfaction with the electoral process, noting that all procedures were followed in line with the party\u2019s constitution, the Electoral Act, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are here to monitor the Congress of the Labour Party as enshrined in the Electoral Act. We have seen that they followed all procedures,\u201d <\/em>Hamza said.<\/p>\n \u201cI, therefore, wish the new Executive members well. I urge them to continue to abide by the rules and regulations of the electoral umpire.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n In his acceptance speech, newly elected Chairman Alexander Ombugu thanked the national leadership, state congress delegates, and supporters for the opportunity to serve.<\/p>\n He appealed to members and supporters across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state to support him in ensuring the party\u2019s growth and success.<\/p>\n \u201cAs party chairman, I will run an open-door policy where every member is carried along, and everyone\u2019s opinion is respected,\u201d <\/em>Ombugu said.<\/p>\n \u201cWith the 2027 elections approaching, I, together with the party hierarchy, will do our best to win elections in Nasarawa State, including the governorship election.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00a9 2025 Abia Radio News, a division of Tee Global Innovataions.
