{"id":238537,"date":"2025-12-24T15:05:36","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T15:05:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.name.ng\/news\/apc-getting-overloaded-with-defecting-politicians-it-may-soon-capsize-moro\/"},"modified":"2025-12-24T15:05:36","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T15:05:36","slug":"apc-getting-overloaded-with-defecting-politicians-it-may-soon-capsize-moro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/apc-getting-overloaded-with-defecting-politicians-it-may-soon-capsize-moro\/","title":{"rendered":"APC Getting Overloaded With Defecting Politicians, It May Soon Capsize \u2013 Moro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">\n<p>Senate Minority leader, <strong>Abba Moro<\/strong>, has predicted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may soon implode due to the gale of defections by politicians into the party.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during plenary on Tuesday, Moro expressed concerns about the wave of defections into the APC, stating that it not only poses a threat to democracy in Nigeria, but also weakens opposition and democratic balance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abia Radio News<\/strong> reports that the comments by Moro followed <strong>the defection<\/strong> of two Senators from Rivers State, <strong>Barinada Mpigi<\/strong> and <strong>Allwell Onyesoh<\/strong>, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC during plenary on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn view of what has just happened, I want to say my colleagues on this part of the aisle who have moved have exercised their rights to associate as they wish.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cLet me say here, like I have said before, that when you overload a boat midstream, the possible consequence is the load capsizing.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMr President, I think that when people move, they should have the courage to move with this conviction and not to give the impression of the imminent collapse of the PDP or the opposition.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cYou know, in our tradition, you can\u2019t beat a child and ask him not to cry.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI find it a little unfortunate that the leader of the Senate is congratulating himself and his party on the dangerous drift of Nigeria\u2019s democracy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI want to insist that this is not good for democracy<\/em>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Senate President Godswill Akpabio interjected and asked Moro to \u201crestrict himself \u201cto the business of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing, Moro submitted that the opposition has not collapsed and would continue to defend the nation\u2019s democracy.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cContrary to the impression, I want to insist that this side of the aisle has not collapsed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe will continue to work for the interest of Nigeria on this part of the aisle,\u201d<\/em> Moro added.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, in his response, said Moro\u2019s remarks are simply his personal opinion, adding that the Minority Leader breached senate rules.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhat the minority leader just said were his personal opinions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHe ought to have come under Order 42. All that he said is in violation of our rules,\u201d<\/em> Jibrin said.<\/p>\n<h2>It Is Invalid<\/h2>\n<p>The Senate President, in his reaction, agreed with Jibrin that Moro\u2019s submissions did not comply with Senate rules, noting that the defection letters had earlier been read and deferred before being taken again ahead of the day\u2019s main business.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhat Moro did is invalid,\u201d<\/em> Akpabio said.<\/p>\n<p>However, the senate president added that expressing dissatisfaction should not be suppressed, referencing Moro\u2019s remark that \u201cIf you beat a child, you don\u2019t stop him from crying\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The defections reduced the PDP\u2019s number in the Senate from 26 to 24, while increasing the APC\u2019s seats from 75 to 77.<\/p>\n<p><!-- CONTENT END 2 -->\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senate Minority leader, Abba Moro, has predicted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may soon implode due to the gale of defections by politicians into the party.
