Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano has held a closed-door meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state ahead of his defection.<\/p>\n
Among those at the meeting are APC chiarman in Kano,\u00a0Abdullahi Abbas, and House of Representatives member, Alhassan Ado Doguwa.<\/p>\n
The meeting, which also had other APC stakeholders in attendance, took place in Kano and was confirmed by sources familiar with the engagement.<\/p>\n
Although details of the discussions were not officially disclosed, the meeting has intensified speculation over Yusuf\u2019s political future.<\/p>\n
The development comes amid persistent rumours that the governor may be considering a defection from the New Nigeria People\u2019s Party (NNPP) to the APC.<\/p>\n
In recent months, Kano\u2019s political space has been awash with reports of backchannel talks between the governor and senior APC figures at both state and national levels.<\/p>\n
The rumours gained momentum following Yusuf\u2019s repeated public appearances with APC leaders and his increasingly conciliatory tone toward the ruling party.<\/p>\n
Yusuf, who emerged governor on the platform of the NNPP in 2023 with the backing of former governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has faced speculation over strained relations within the party\u2019s national leadership.<\/p>\n
