The former vice\u2011presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Yusuf Datti Baba\u2011Ahmed<\/strong>, has expressed scepticism about Peter Obi\u2019s prospects of clinching the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing entrenched interests and unresolved ambitions within the emerging opposition coalition.<\/p>\n Baba\u2011Ahmed spoke on Trust TV during a recent interview, offering his perspective on the unfolding political dynamics in the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n When asked about his instinct regarding what would happen within the ADC, Baba\u2011Ahmed was cautious in his prediction.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it is very unlikely that Peter Obi will secure the ticket. If he does, I will be happy for him,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n His remarks underscore the complexities within the ADC, where multiple heavyweight contenders are expected to contest the ticket, making the outcome far from certain despite Obi\u2019s high profile.<\/p>\n On whether Obi should accept a vice\u2011presidential slot if offered, Baba\u2011Ahmed reiterated that the decision ultimately lies with Obi himself and, in any case, is unlikely.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is not about what I think. He has said he will not accept it. He has said he did not travel the world to learn how to be President only to return home to run as a vice\u2011presidential candidate,\u201d<\/em> Baba\u2011Ahmed stated.<\/p>\n He also referenced other notable political figures who, in his view, would similarly reject a deputy role.<\/p>\n \u201cYou asked why I will not go to the ADC, and you have helped me answer it. Atiku will not accept a vice\u2011presidential slot. Amaechi may not accept it. Peter Obi will not accept it. All of them must win,\u201d<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n Baba\u2011Ahmed reflected on past political alliances, particularly the 2015 elections, when the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders rallied around the late Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n \u201cIn 2015, they had the late Muhammadu Buhari. They also had Bola Tinubu, who told everyone: \u2018if you are joining us, be ready for Buhari to win.\u2019 They supported him in the primaries, took power and Tinubu <\/a>executed a 16\u2011year master plan, something no other Nigerian politician has been able to do,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n
