{"id":239435,"date":"2026-01-15T18:41:51","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T18:41:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/nigeria-removed-from-european-unions-financial-high-risk-list\/"},"modified":"2026-01-15T18:41:51","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T18:41:51","slug":"nigeria-removed-from-european-unions-financial-high-risk-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/nigeria-removed-from-european-unions-financial-high-risk-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria removed from European Union\u2019s financial high-risk list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p data-start=\"84\" data-end=\"267\">Nigeria has been removed from the European Union\u2019s list of high-risk jurisdictions, a development expected to ease trade, payments and investment flows between the country and Europe.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"269\" data-end=\"411\">According to a report by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Business Insider<\/span><\/span>, the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">European Commission<\/span><\/span> confirmed the decision on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"413\" data-end=\"604\">The commission said Nigeria, alongside South Africa, Burkina Faso, Mali, Mozambique and Tanzania, had strengthened its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML\/CFT) regimes.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"606\" data-end=\"716\">It said the countries no longer pose \u201cstrategic deficiencies\u201d under the European Union\u2019s assessment standards.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"718\" data-end=\"906\">The commission added that the affected countries implemented reforms aligning their financial systems with international benchmarks set by the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Financial Action Task Force<\/span><\/span> (FATF).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"908\" data-end=\"1069\">Reacting to the development, Doris Uzoka-Anite, minister of state for finance, described Nigeria\u2019s removal from the list as a major boost to investor confidence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1071\" data-end=\"1186\">In a post on X on Thursday, Uzoka-Anite wrote: \u201cBig win for Nigeria! Removed from EU\u2019s financial \u2018high-risk\u2019 list! Congrats to President Bola Ahmed <a href=\"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.name.ng\/news\/tinubu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu <\/a>on this achievement.
