{"id":239679,"date":"2026-01-19T07:11:43","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T07:11:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/well-be-deploying-cctv-on-all-federal-highways-umahi\/"},"modified":"2026-01-19T07:11:43","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T07:11:43","slug":"well-be-deploying-cctv-on-all-federal-highways-umahi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/well-be-deploying-cctv-on-all-federal-highways-umahi\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cWe\u2019ll be deploying CCTV on all federal highways\u201d \u2013 Umahi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said that the Federal Government has made plans to ensure that Closed-Circuit Television (CCTVs) are installed on all federal highways across Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Umahi also commended President Bola <a href=\"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.name.ng\/news\/tinubu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu <\/a>for his interest and committment towards ending the menace on the roads in the Southeast region, due to several challenges in the past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He said the president has broken the jinx of failed road contracts across the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Speaking during the weekend while unveiling tougher engineering standards, strict deadlines and new technology to secure highways across the region, the Minister said the contractors have been doing a great job on the Enugu-Onitsha Highway.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe are deploying patrol boats, just like we have done at the Third Mainland Bridge, to monitor compliance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cOur commitment to deploying CCTV and solar lighting is not limited to bridges alone. Any completed federal highway will have CCTV, solar lights, and dedicated security vehicles. Our response time to incidents will not exceed five minutes,\u201d Umahi said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The minister noted that this initiative is aimed at ensuring optimum security across the entire highways in the country while enforcing strict adherence to government directives. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He further disclosed that the Nigerian government has taken steps to end all forms of mining activities within a 10-kilometre radius of bridges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Minister emphasised that the ban has been approved by the Federal Executive Council with an enforcement mechanism that would include patrols on the roads, bridges and water bodies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIn line with the Federal Executive Council\u2019s directive, there will be no mining of any sort within a 10-kilometre radius of bridges nationwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said that the Federal Government has made plans to ensure that Closed-Circuit Television (CCTVs) are installed on all federal highways across Nigeria.
