{"id":239810,"date":"2026-01-20T09:54:03","date_gmt":"2026-01-20T09:54:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/nnpp-will-win-kano-in-2027-with-or-without-gov-yusuf-ladipo-johnson\/"},"modified":"2026-01-20T09:54:03","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T09:54:03","slug":"nnpp-will-win-kano-in-2027-with-or-without-gov-yusuf-ladipo-johnson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/nnpp-will-win-kano-in-2027-with-or-without-gov-yusuf-ladipo-johnson\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018NNPP Will Win Kano In 2027 With Or Without Gov Yusuf\u2019 \u2013 Ladipo Johnson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">\n<p>The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has expressed confidence that it will win the 2027 Kano State governorship election, even if Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf defects to the ruling <strong>All Progressives Congress (APC)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Speculation has been rife in recent weeks over the governor\u2019s possible defection, especially following his recent meeting with President <strong>Bola Ahmed Tinubu<\/strong>, which reignited political debates in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Channels Television\u2019s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, a chieftain of the NNPP, Ladipo Johnson, said the party was not threatened by the governor\u2019s alleged plans, insisting that NNPP has strong grassroots structures in Kano.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn 2019, without a sitting governor or members of the House of Assembly, we believe we won Kano, but INEC declared the election inconclusive and later Ganduje was returned<\/em>,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>In 2023, same position. We went up against the APC and, well, His Excellency Abba Kabir Yusuf knows that he won the elections.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He added that the party\u2019s success was achieved without incumbency.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cNNPP won the elections, won most of the seats, and we did this without having anyone in situ\u2014no councillors, nothing. We were able to win Kano<\/em>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson expressed optimism that the party would repeat the feat in the next election cycle, regardless of Yusuf\u2019s political affiliation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>By God\u2019s special grace, in 2027, the same thing will happen whether or not he has left us or whether he\u2019s with us. That sounds slightly arrogant, but I\u2019m not being arrogant. It\u2019s politics, and I believe we will be able to win Kano<\/em>,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Governor Yusuf paid a visit to President <a href=\"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.name.ng\/news\/tinubu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu <\/a>at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, fuelling renewed claims that he was preparing to dump the NNPP for the APC.<\/p>\n<p>However, the governor\u2019s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, dismissed the speculation, saying the meeting was purely official.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cGovernor Yusuf informed President <a href=\"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.name.ng\/news\/tinubu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu <\/a>about the recent tragic killing of a housewife and her children, stressing the need for decisive federal support to strengthen security operations and protect innocent citizens<\/em>,\u201d Bature said in a statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Yusuf won the 2023 Kano governorship election on the platform of the NNPP, defeating the APC candidate, Yusuf Gawuna.<\/p>\n<p><!-- CONTENT END 2 -->\n                                                                                                            <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has expressed confidence that it will win the 2027 Kano State governorship election, even if Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf defects to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
