The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be dropped as President Bola Tinubu\u2019s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the claims as \u201cpurely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless.\u201d<\/p>\n
The ruling party was reacting to growing media speculation that it could reconsider the Muslim\u2013Muslim ticket that secured its victory in the 2023 presidential election.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said its attention had been drawn to what it described as an increasing \u201cmedia frenzy\u201d over an alleged plan to replace the Vice President.<\/p>\n
Morka noted that while earlier reports were subtle, they had recently escalated, with specific individuals being named as possible replacements for Shettima.<\/p>\n
The party warned media organisations against promoting unverified claims, urging them to refrain from giving platforms to rumours capable of causing division and confusion.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur party states in categorical terms that these stories are purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge media organisations to desist from lending their platforms to rumour-peddlers and mischievous \u2018news sources\u2019 of questionable provenance whose only intention is to promote discord in the polity.\u201d<\/p>\n
The APC also stressed that political activities remain restricted under existing laws and electoral regulations, adding that the party is not engaged in succession discussions at this time.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnder our laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force,\u201d Morka said, noting that the party\u2019s current priority is governance.<\/p>\n
