Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has urged Nigerians in the United States who are going into hiding due to fears of deportation to return home and avoid potential arrest.<\/p>\n
In a post on X on Saturday, Sani described reports of thousands of Nigerians going into hiding because of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities as worrying, emphasising that hiding was not a solution.<\/p>\n
He advised those affected to respect themselves and consider returning to Nigeria voluntarily, noting that \u201ceven some US citizens are sometimes affected during enforcement operations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sani also said that those choosing self-deportation have accepted the reality of the situation, adding that US President Donald Trump still has three years remaining in his tenure.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cThe thousands of Nigerians reportedly going into hiding in the US out of fear of deportation by ICE should respect themselves and return home to avoid arrest.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn a situation where sometimes even the US citizens are not spared, hiding is not an option. Those who are self-deporting have read and understood the reality. Trump has 3 more years for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sani\u2019s comments come amid increasing concerns over immigration enforcement and deportation in the US.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
