He described the Labour Party as a movement already built on unity and shared ideals.

Speaking after a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee in Abuja on Saturday, Otti made it clear that the party’s direction remains independent. He explained that the Labour Party represents Nigerian workers and citizens who share progressive values.

“Labour is already a coalition. This is the coalition of Nigerian workers and people who are progressive like-minded.

“So, I know when people talk about joining another coalition. We have no such plans,” he said.

The governor stressed that the party will focus on strengthening its internal structure rather than seeking alliances with other political parties. He added that the Labour Party is committed to presenting its own candidates and ideas to Nigerians in 2027.

The NEC meeting took place shortly after a major court decision affecting the party’s leadership. A Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier upheld the removal of Julius Abure as the national chairman of the party.

The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognize Senator Nenadi Usman as head of the party’s National Caretaker Committee.

Otti confirmed that the electoral body has complied with the ruling. He said INEC has removed Abure’s name from its official records and replaced it with that of Mrs. Usman.

This development, according to the governor, marks a new phase for the party’s administration and internal stability.

However, Julius Abure has rejected the judgment. He described it as unacceptable and announced plans to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal.

The disagreement has deepened the leadership crisis within the party, even as the new caretaker committee begins its work.

Nevertheless, the governor’s comments signal Labour Party’s intention to stand alone in the 2027 race, without entering into coalition negotiations.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has dismissed reports that the Labour Party plans to enter into any coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
