{"id":241038,"date":"2026-02-04T10:22:40","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T10:22:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/breaking-former-benue-governor-suswan-dumps-pdp\/"},"modified":"2026-02-04T10:22:40","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T10:22:40","slug":"breaking-former-benue-governor-suswan-dumps-pdp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/breaking-former-benue-governor-suswan-dumps-pdp\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: Former Benue Governor Suswan Dumps PDP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">\n<p>Former Benue State Governor and ex-Senator representing Benue North-East, Gabriel Suswam, has resigned from the <strong>Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abia Radio News<\/strong> reports that Suswam announced his resignation in a letter dated Wednesday, February 4, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Mbagber Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.<\/p>\n<p>In the letter, the former governor said his decision followed years of persistent and unresolved internal conflicts within the party.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis decision has not been taken lightly<\/em>,\u201d Suswam wrote, noting that the PDP had provided him the platform to serve Nigeria as a member of the House of Representatives (1999\u20132007), Governor of Benue State (2007\u20132015), and Senator (2019\u20132023).<\/p>\n<p>He expressed gratitude for the opportunities and trust reposed in him by the party over the years.<\/p>\n<p>However, Suswam lamented that the PDP had drifted from its foundational values of cohesion, internal democracy, and progressive opposition.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, leadership disputes, disciplinary breakdown, and ideological disagreements had been allowed to fester without a credible roadmap for resolution.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cDespite repeated interventions, reconciliatory committees, and public assurances, the party continues to operate in a state of deep internal dysfunction<\/em>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He described the PDP as an institution \u201c<em>in political intensive care,\u201d<\/em> lacking consensus on both diagnosis and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Suswam said he found it increasingly difficult to reconcile his continued membership with his personal convictions and political philosophy.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI believe that political parties must serve as platforms for ideas, discipline, and constructive engagement, not arenas of endless internal warfare<\/em>,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the current condition of the PDP no longer aligned with those ideals, making his exit both \u201chonourable and necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While announcing his resignation, Suswam did not disclose his next political destination.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, wished the party well, expressing hope that it might one day resolve its internal contradictions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Please accept my resignation and convey my appreciation to members at all levels for the shared journey over the years<\/em>,\u201d the letter concluded.<\/p>\n<p><!-- CONTENT END 2 -->\n                                                                                                            <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Benue State Governor and ex-Senator representing Benue North-East, Gabriel Suswam, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
