{"id":241145,"date":"2026-02-05T17:45:24","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T17:45:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/electoral-act-peter-obi-reacts-to-senates-rejection-of-e-transmission-of-results\/"},"modified":"2026-02-05T17:45:24","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T17:45:24","slug":"electoral-act-peter-obi-reacts-to-senates-rejection-of-e-transmission-of-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/electoral-act-peter-obi-reacts-to-senates-rejection-of-e-transmission-of-results\/","title":{"rendered":"Electoral Act: Peter Obi Reacts to Senate\u2019s Rejection of E-Transmission of Results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"348\">The 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has strongly criticised the Senate\u2019s rejection of mandatory electronic transmission of election results, describing the move as a grave setback to Nigeria\u2019s democracy and a deliberate attempt to undermine electoral credibility ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"350\" data-end=\"457\">Obi made his position known in a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"728\" data-end=\"927\">According to him, the Senate\u2019s refusal to adopt compulsory electronic transmission of results amounts to \u201can unforgivable act of electoral manipulation\u201d and a direct assault on democratic principles.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"929\" data-end=\"1155\">\u201cThis failure to pass a clear safeguard is nothing short of a deliberate assault on Nigeria\u2019s democracy,\u201d Obi said, adding that by rejecting transparency measures, lawmakers were weakening the foundation of credible elections.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1157\" data-end=\"1322\">He questioned the true purpose of government, asking whether it exists to ensure justice and order or to institutionalise chaos for the benefit of a few individuals.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1324\" data-end=\"1770\">Obi argued that the controversies, disputes and alleged irregularities that characterised previous elections, particularly the 2023 general election, were largely a result of the failure to fully implement electronic transmission of results.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1324\" data-end=\"1770\">He dismissed claims of technical \u201cglitches\u201d during the elections as excuses, noting that several African countries have successfully adopted electronic transmission to strengthen their democratic systems.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1772\" data-end=\"1940\">\u201cWhile other African nations are moving forward, Nigeria, the so-called giant of Africa, continues to lag behind, dragging itself and the continent backwards,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2419\" data-end=\"2672\">Obi further warned that rejecting mandatory electronic transmission entrenches disorder and confusion aimed at perpetuating the interests of a small clique, urging leaders to reflect on the future of the country and the wellbeing of the next generation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2674\" data-end=\"2878\">Referring to past remarks by international leaders, Obi noted that Nigeria often reacts angrily to criticism but continues to validate such assessments through actions that oppose transparency and reform.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2880\" data-end=\"3041\">\u201cWhen we were called a \u2018now disgraced nation,\u2019 we were offended.
