Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi<\/span><\/span> has described the recent United States advisory on Nigeria as a bad omen.<\/p>\n Obi said the directive to evacuate embassy staff over rising insecurity should be treated as a national emergency.<\/p>\n \u201cThe recent directive by the United States to evacuate its embassy staff from Nigeria due to rising insecurity is deeply worrisome and should be treated as a national emergency, especially for a country already struggling to attract investors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The former Anambra state governor said Nigeria\u2019s insecurity has worsened despite its ranking on the Global Terrorism Index.<\/p>\n \u201cNigeria currently ranks fourth in the Global Terrorism Index, yet insecurity continues to worsen \u2013 lives are being lost and communities remain under constant threat.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is a glaring absence of effective governance; instead, what prevails are schemes that undermine democratic processes, as though politics has taken precedence over the safety of citizens,.<\/p>\n \u201cThe U.S. directive is a clear signal of declining confidence in our national security architecture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Obi also referenced reports of the killing of a senior military officer in Borno by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.<\/p>\n \u201cDisturbingly, reports indicate the loss of yet another Army Brigadier General to terrorists in Borno earlier today.<\/p>\n \u201cA nation where people cannot live, work, worship, or travel safely cannot progress or attract investment.<\/p>\n \u201cThe primary duty of any government is the protection of lives and property, yet in this regard, we as leaders have fallen short over the years.
