Veteran Nigerian singer,<\/strong> Chinagorom Onuoha, popularly known as African China, has said that surviving in the music industry requires knowing how to fight and protect oneself.<\/p>\n Abia Radio News<\/strong> reports that African China made this known in a recent episode of the \u2018Beer Parlour Talk\u2019 podcast.<\/p>\n According to the \u2018Mr President\u2019 crooner, making conscious music endangered his life, and he protected himself using voodoo (juju).<\/p>\n African China also stated that he learnt martial arts because his life was in danger, stressing that the police, OPC and Area Boys were after him because of his controversial songs.<\/p>\n He said, \u201cI am a black belter. During my time, you need to know how to fight to survive in the music industry. I was not just learning martial arts but also engaged in voodoo to protect myself.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cMy life was in danger because I was making conscious music. I was running from the police, OPC and Area Boys. Informants also helped me in escaping from the constant threats. OPC alway tried to harrass me even when I was performing but the audience always give me signals whenever they are coming. So, OPC thought I was using voodoo to disappear.
