{"id":242443,"date":"2026-04-20T22:18:50","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T22:18:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/interpol-arrests-wanted-lagos-businessman-in-cotonou-after-links-to-multiple-killings\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T22:18:50","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T22:18:50","slug":"interpol-arrests-wanted-lagos-businessman-in-cotonou-after-links-to-multiple-killings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/interpol-arrests-wanted-lagos-businessman-in-cotonou-after-links-to-multiple-killings\/","title":{"rendered":"INTERPOL arrests wanted Lagos businessman in Cotonou after links to multiple killings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p data-start=\"91\" data-end=\"227\">Ahmed Akanbi, a Lagos-based businessman, has been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, over alleged links to multiple killings in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"229\" data-end=\"357\">The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) after months of tracking.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"359\" data-end=\"486\">Assistant Inspector General of Polcie Moshood Jimoh in charge of zone 2 command, confirmed the development on Monday in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"488\" data-end=\"553\">AIG Jimoh said Akanbi was arrested on April 15 at a hotel in Cotonou after\u00a0had been on the run across several countries after being declared wanted.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"650\" data-end=\"778\">His words: \u201cThis case involves multiple murders, attempted murders, and destruction of lives and property spanning several years. The suspect, Ahmed Akanbi, was earlier declared wanted alongside other accomplices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"867\" data-end=\"950\">He listed the accomplices as Safiu Fatai, Yusuf Ismaila, Soji Mascot and one Kenny, adding thayt the suspect has been handed over to Nigerian authorities for further investigation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1048\" data-end=\"1229\">\u201cI can confirm to you that he has now been arrested by INTERPOL operatives in Benin Republic and handed over to INTERPOL Nigeria, and today handed to us at Zone 2 command,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1298\" data-end=\"1392\">He said the case gained renewed attention after a petition to the Inspector-General of Police and preliminary findings linked Akanbi to killings in the Ojomu community in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1486\" data-end=\"1580\">He said some arrested suspects had confessed to carrying out attacks on Akanbi\u2019s instructions as the suspect allegedly financed the operations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1641\" data-end=\"1759\">\u201cSheriff Ishola was murdered on April 18, 2023, while Prince Ademola Akinloye was killed on August 26, 2024,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1761\" data-end=\"1822\">He said both incidents occurred in the Eti-Osa axis of Lagos, even as he urged\u00a0victims to come forward with evidence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"2000\">\u201cVictims should not be afraid. They can submit their petitions, and their identities will be adequately protected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2002\" data-end=\"2123\">Fidelis Ogarabe, Commissioner of Police, INTERPOL, said the arrest was made possible through international collaboration.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2125\" data-end=\"2188\">\u201cOur counterparts in Benin Republic cooperated fully.
