They cited provisions of the NBMA Act, 2015, which require a minimum of 15 years\u2019 cognate experience in biosafety, biodiversity or related fields.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"688\" data-end=\"778\">Critics said Zuntu\u2019s publicly available profile suggests she may not meet the requirement.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"780\" data-end=\"868\">The agency regulates biotechnology and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in Nigeria. Concerns have also been raised about leadership instability at the agency. Within the past three years, the NBMA has had multiple heads.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1009\" data-end=\"1122\">Agnes Asagbra, appointed in 2023, did not complete her tenure, while Bello Bwari resigned after about six months.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1124\" data-end=\"1235\">A senior official, who declined to be named, said the agency has faced challenges with leadership appointments.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1237\" data-end=\"1322\">\u201cWe\u2019ve not been lucky at this agency with the appointment of DGs,\u201d the official told Premium Times after the appointment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1324\" data-end=\"1402\">Another official said experienced directors within the agency were overlooked.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1404\" data-end=\"1527\">\u201cThis lady is just approaching 30 years old. She is not experienced at all. How do they want her to lead?\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1585\" data-end=\"1666\">Tosin Arebuwa, a commentator, criticised what he described as limited experience.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1668\" data-end=\"1769\">\u201cIn less than 10 years, she\u2019s worked six different jobs across six different organisations. Where is the place of depth and expertise?\u201d he queried.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2146\">Zuntu holds a degree in medicine from the University of Maiduguri and a master\u2019s in public health from the University of South Wales.
