The All Progressives Congress<\/span><\/span> (APC) has asked security agencies to take action over alleged inciting comments by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n In a statement on Sunday, Barr. Felix Morka<\/span><\/span>, national publicity secretary of the party, said the governor\u2019s remarks at an opposition summit in Ibadan pose a threat to national security.<\/p>\n Morka said Governor Makinde\u2019s reference to the historic \u201cOperation Wetie\u201d amounted to dangerous rhetoric.<\/p>\n \u201cThe All Progressives Congress (APC) categorically condemns Governor Makinde\u2019s incitement as reckless, and a clear and present threat to peace and national security.<\/p>\n \u201cMakinde\u2019s violent rhetoric cannot be dismissed as mere opposition posturing. His statement risks fueling anarchy, murderous rage and widespread lawlessness capable of undermining national stability.<\/p>\n \u201cWe therefore call on all relevant security and intelligence agencies to take this unfortunate development seriously and act to safeguard lives, property, and defend Nigeria\u2019s democratic order,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The party said constitutional immunity does not shield public officials from accountability on issues affecting national security.<\/p>\n \u201cNo individual, however highly placed, should have the power to threaten or endanger the lives and safety of Nigerians or upend the country\u2019s hard-won democratic governance under the guise of political commentary,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n The APC also dismissed claims that Nigeria is drifting towards a one-party state, blaming opposition parties for their internal crises.<\/p>\n It criticised opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar<\/span><\/span> and Peter Obi<\/span><\/span>, accusing them of failing to provide credible alternatives.<\/p>\n The party said Nigeria\u2019s democratic space remains open and competitive, with multiple parties participating in the electoral process.<\/p>\n It added that the APC, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu<\/span><\/span>, remains committed to governance and democratic consolidation ahead of the 2027 elections.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked security agencies to take action over alleged inciting comments by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state.
