Following the growing outrage over the killing of a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Abdulsamad Jamiu, the Nigerian Army has explained in detail the circumstances surrounding his death.<\/span><\/p>\n In a statement issued on Sunday, Lieutenant Olawuyi Odunola, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, <\/span>Headquarters Guards Brigade, Abuja said Jamiu was killed during a security incident in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory.<\/span><\/p>\n According to Odunola, the incident in the early hours of April 25, 2026, at Shagari Estate, Dei-Dei.<\/span><\/p>\n He said troops of the Guards Brigade Quick Response Group, on routine night patrol, responded to a distress call following an armed robbery attack in the area. <\/span><\/p>\n However, upon their arrival, the troops came under gunfire from the fleeing armed robbers, resulting in a brief but intense exchange.<\/span><\/p>\n Odunola stated that the NYSC member was caught in crossfire during the course of the gun duel with the armed robbers.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cDespite efforts by troops to secure the area and preserve lives, he sadly succumbed to his injuries. This heartbreaking loss has cast a deep shadow over all personnel of the Guards Brigade.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cPreliminary information indicates that the situation was fluid and highly volatile, as troops worked to repel the attackers and protect residents of the community from harm,\u201d Odunola said.<\/span><\/p>\n He added that the Commander, Guards Brigade, officers and soldiers extend their deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the National Youth Service Corps, and all who are affected by this painful loss. <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe share in their grief and stand in solidarity with them during this moment of profound sorrow.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe Brigade has since initiated a thorough investigation to fully ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
