The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has commended the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, for his commitment to completing the Victor Attah International Airport and achieving its international status.<\/p>\n
The airport on Saturday commenced international operations, airlifting its first set of passengers\u2014including the governor and other dignitaries\u2014to Accra, Ghana.<\/p>\n
Speaking during a brief ceremony at the airport prior to takeoff, the minister noted that it takes vision and determination to see through a project that began over 27 years ago.<\/p>\n
Keyamo described the facility as a world-class transit hub and highlighted its economic and social significance to both the state and the nation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis airport is not just one of many or merely a terminal building, but a world-class transit hub with immense impact. With this facility, passengers can transfer flights from international to international, domestic to international, and international to domestic.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis kind of service does not exist in any sub-national entity in the country\u2014only here. It is not just the best; it is the only one of its kind, a true pacesetter,\u201d Keyamo said.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Governor Eno attributed the project\u2019s success to the visionary leadership of successive administrations.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has indeed been a relay race of impactful leadership from Obong Victor Attah, to Chief Godswill Akpabio, to Mr. Udom Emmanuel, and now to me. Each has contributed exceptionally to our collective good,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
