{"id":242762,"date":"2026-05-04T19:16:32","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T19:16:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/why-we-started-registration-of-ndc-in-2017-seriake-dickson\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T19:16:32","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T19:16:32","slug":"why-we-started-registration-of-ndc-in-2017-seriake-dickson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/why-we-started-registration-of-ndc-in-2017-seriake-dickson\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cWhy we started registration of NDC in 2017\u201d \u2013 Seriake Dickson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A former governor of Bayelsa State and the lawmaker representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Seriake Dickson has explained the rationale behind the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Dickson in a statement released on X on Monday, April 4, said the NDC was registered to build an ideological political party that can be compared to the African National Congress (ANC) in its finest years in South Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He stated that the registration process of the NDC started as far back as 2017 with the focus to measure up to political parties across Europe, America, India and even the Communist Party of China \u2013 in terms of stability, structure, and the ability to endure beyond its founders for generations to come.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe NDC is a party with a special place for young people and women, one that prioritises mentorship and prepares citizens for service. It is designed to serve the people, not just the big, strong, and powerful, but also the ordinary and the vulnerable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cFor the record, the annexures show that we initiated the registration process for the NDC as far back as 2017 and that INEC granted approval at that time before the process was halted,\u201d Dickson said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In addition, explained that when the party registration resumed in 2025, his team revisited and updated their earlier application with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The lawmaker, alongside his statement, shared a letter from INEC confirming receipt of the application for NDC\u2019s registration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">INEC in the letter dated March 9, 2017, said, \u201cThe Commission has considered your application and found that the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">proposed name complies with the requirements for registration as a Political Party under Section 222 of the Constitution of FRN 1999 (as amended).\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Dickson also highlighting some of the efforts channelled towards the process said the team carried out a Google search on February 3, 2017, before arriving at the \u201cV-sign\u201d as the party\u2019s logo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWith my experience in politics, I am fully aware that an ambitious project of this nature will attract distractions\u2014rumours, gossip, propaganda, and even blackmail. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThese are all parts of the terrain that we are used to. I therefore urge Nigerians to discountenance and ignore such propaganda about the NDC or any of its leaders and remain focused on the bigger picture,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He further appreciated Nigerians for the growing support and confidence shown to the NDC and its leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Also calling on well-meaning Nigerians to register and join the party, Dickson said the people\u2019s trust has been the most important currency driving the party.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWhat we are witnessing is a powerful convergence: my role as a party organiser and builder, alongside two political heavyweights with immense grassroots support, popularity and political experience, as well as several other leaders in their own right across the country, all coming together under one platform,\u201d Dickson said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former governor of Bayelsa State and the lawmaker representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Seriake Dickson has explained the rationale behind the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC).
