Popular Nigerian comedian and filmmaker, Ayo Makun<\/strong>, better known as AY, has mourned the death of Nollywood actor,<\/strong> Alex <\/a>Ekubo,<\/strong> recalling his final moments in a Lagos hospital.<\/p>\n

Ekubo reportedly died on Monday, May 11, 2026, after a long battle with cancer.<\/p>\n

The actor was said to have been diagnosed with stage four liver cancer in 2024 and later underwent a transplant. However, his liver reportedly failed again in 2026, leading to complications.<\/p>\n

He died hours after he was placed on life support.<\/p>\n

In an emotional Instagram post, AY, who hinted that he was present at the hospital, described Ekubo\u2019s death as a painful loss that still felt difficult to accept.<\/p>\n

According to him, the late actor was smiling when he breathed his last.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome losses do not feel real no matter how many times you try to process them. Still struggling with the reality that you are gone, Alex<\/em>,\u201d AY wrote.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cFrom the laughter to the conversations, the random moments, the brotherhood, and all the memories we shared in this industry. This one hurts deeply.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI was there. I saw you still smiling even in death. I saw the tears from friends and family. And honestly, a part of me is still in shock. Rest well my brother. You will be remembered beyond the lights, the cameras, and the fame.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Also mourning the actor, one of his friends, Godwin Nnadiekwe, revealed that Ekubo had prepared his will before his death.<\/p>\n

In a post on his Instagram story, Nnadiekwe said the development made the actor\u2019s death more heartbreaking.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex <\/a>Ekubo. To think you already prepared your will, it\u2019s a heartbreak I can\u2019t quite describe. Rest well, my friend,\u201d<\/em> he wrote.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the family of the late actor has confirmed the cause of his death<\/strong>, revealing he died from complications linked to advanced metastatic kidney cancer.<\/p>\n

In a statement shared on the actor\u2019s official Instagram page earlier today, May 13, relatives said he passed away at Evercare Hospital after what they described as a brief but courageous battle with the illness.<\/p>\n

The message, issued on behalf of the family, read: \u201cFrom the Family of Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Son, Brother, and Friend, Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

It continued: \u201cAfter a brief but courageous battle, Alexx passed away at Evercare Hospital due to complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The statement painted a picture of resilience during his final days, saying the actor endured his health struggles with faith and optimism.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout this difficult journey, he bore his pain with remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and enduring hope, believing that one day his testimony would be shared with the world,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>it added.<\/p>\n

The family appealed for privacy as they mourn, noting that funeral plans will be shared later.<\/p>\n
