{"id":243127,"date":"2026-06-19T11:02:32","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T11:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/take-terrorists-criminals-off-your-front-pages-fg-cautions-media\/"},"modified":"2026-06-19T11:02:32","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T11:02:32","slug":"take-terrorists-criminals-off-your-front-pages-fg-cautions-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abiaradiostations.com.ng\/news\/take-terrorists-criminals-off-your-front-pages-fg-cautions-media\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cTake terrorists, criminals off your front pages\u201d \u2013 FG cautions media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Federal Government has cautioned media organisations across Nigeria against glorifying criminal activities in their reports.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, urged journalists, editors, and publishers to prioritise patriotism and national stability by downplaying the activities of terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements, particularly on front pages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Idris made the call on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at a two-day national security summit organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in partnership with the Department of State Services (DSS). <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The summit was themed \u201cMedia and Security Agencies as Partners in Nation Building.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Minister assured participants that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration remains committed to upholding press freedom and responsible journalism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cYes, we have to do our work. We have to report whatever happens,\u201d he said. \u201cBut you must know that the best reporter and the best editor is the one who knows what not to report in the interest of nation-building.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cPlease, take these terrorists and criminals off your front pages. This is what they crave \u2014 free publicity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt saddens my mind when I see our front pages and headlines giving prominence to the activities of these criminals while underplaying the efforts of our security agencies.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Idris warned that no media organisation can thrive in an unstable nation, stressing that national security is undermined when misinformation is amplified without verification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cNational security is not served when misinformation is amplified without verification.
