The Presidency has hit back at 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Obi, describing his call for President Bola Tinubu\u2019s resignation as childish, simplistic, and an unwarranted distraction. <\/p>\n
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Obi had earlier in the day urged President Tinubu <\/a>to step down from office over what he termed a monumental failure in governance, citing deepening economic hardship, rising living costs, and worsening national security breaches, including persistent kidnappings and violent attacks across the country.\u00a0 <\/p>\n Obi noted that his demand was directly influenced by recent global political developments in the United Kingdom, specifically referencing the resignation announcement made by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer outside 10 Downing Street following public frustration over unfulfilled promises. <\/p>\n \u201cAs a keen observer of global politics, my primary interest lies in examining what successful nations do right and the structural factors that cause others to lag or struggle with governance and development,\u201d Obi stated, arguing that Starmer\u2019s exit represents the kind of accountability that should exist in a healthy democracy. <\/p>\n He also reminded the public that Tinubu <\/a>himself had strongly criticized former President Goodluck Jonathan and demanded his immediate resignation following the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls kidnapping, asserting that the same standard of accountability should now apply to the current administration.
