No plan to undermine your business with electric buses – Abia govt assures transport companies

The Abia State government has clarified that plans to introduce electric buses in the state are not intended to undermine existing transport companies.

The State’s Commissioner for Transport, Chimezie Ukaegbu, gave the assurance on Thursday during a visit to the Abia Line Network Company in Umuahia.

He explained that the electric buses, which are to be introduced, are intended solely for urban mass transit, which he said would promote development and encourage other transport companies to improve their services.

Ukaegbu stated that the central bus terminal currently under construction in Umuahia by the administration of Governor Alex Otti is designed to bring order to the state’s capital and unify the transport system, with the terminal serving as a one-stop hub for all transport companies.

The commissioner urged the staff and management of the company to work harder, cooperate as a team, avoid complacency, and give their best to achieve meaningful and desired results.

The chairman of the Abia State Transport Corporation, Emmanuel Ufomba, while pledging his company’s support for the government, requested that the state repair their dilapidated structures.
